UK HAS BANNED YOUNG MODELS
Yesterday, while watching the news I found out something extremely interesting. The Uk will be banning models 16 and younger from the runway, starting in September for Fall Fashion Week 2008. It was said that younger models are most likely to have eating disorders such as anorexia and sexual exploitation. Older teenaged models maybe going through some big changes too. They will need more protection, including chaperones at shows, according to the Model Health Inquiry, a group investigating models’ health.
Baroness Kingsmill Chair of the panel said, “There was also strongly expressed concern that it is profoundly inappropriate that girls under 16 … should be portrayed as adult women. The risk of sexualizing these children was high and designers could risk charges of sexual exploitation.”
