Tyra Banks is always pushing the envelop when it comes to her talk show. Last night I watched an episode entitled Trya’s thick and sexy top model. There was six curvy gals that Trya hand picked herself. The qualifications were that they had to be over a size 18 which meant that all the women weighted over 200 lbs. These women had to be beautiful, toned, healthy portions, great skin, and in shape. The winner Maggie won $1000 shopping spree at Lane Bryant, high fashion photo shoot for an upcoming plus size magazine “Bombshell”, and a 1 year modeling contract with Wilhelmina.

These six thick and sexy models had to reenact some of the tasks done on American’s Top Model. The weightless challenge, that seemed like they were sky diving in a tube. The crazy weave challenge, the pictures are above. They also had to sell hotty hot sexy tea while walking the cat walk on a table with several men seated at the table. The last challenge was taking a photo for a sexy romance novel cover. The themes were cream in my coffee, broke down mountain, and beauty and the geek.

Requirements Can Include:

Between 5′8″ and 6′0″
5′9″ is pretty much minimum for larger markets though Wilhelmina in NYC does represent a few girls who are 5′7″ and 5′8″.

Size 12, 14, 16
Sizes 10 and 18/20 are also used, but are not as common.

Toned
You may be a “plus size,” but you may have to be in shape if you model swim wear, lingerie or fitness gear.

Proportionate
You should be in proportion. Your bust, waist and hips should be about ten inches apart in size (i.e. 42-32-42) or very close. In addition, the shorter you are, the smaller your size should be. Someone who is 5′8″ would be expected to wear a smaller size (12/14) than a taller model. It is all about length and proportion.

I applaud Trya for showing that you can be a curvy gal and be a top model. Love her or hate she always talks about things that people are afraid to acknowledge. Being a plus size women means being comfortable in your skin no matter what you may see on television!!!
